Grand Theft Auto VI pre-loading now starts two days earlier than planned. In a Newswire post published on November 3, 2026, Rockstar Games confirmed that digital pre-loading opens on Tuesday, November 10. That is nine days before the game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. The same post gives the first official download size: up to 212 GB, depending on your device.
Rockstar Support had previously put the start of pre-loading at local midnight on November 12. Tuesday's announcement replaces that date for digital buyers. November 12 still matters for one group of players, which we cover below. Rockstar also used the post to announce a free printable cover art poster and map of Leonida, arriving on launch day.
What Rockstar Confirmed
Everything in this section comes from Rockstar's November 3 Newswire post:
- PlayStation 5: digital pre-loading begins Tuesday, November 10, at midnight local time in your time zone.
- Xbox Series X|S: pre-loading begins globally on Tuesday, November 10, at 12 a.m. GMT.
- Code-in-box versions for both consoles "should be available from retailers beginning November 12."
- The pre-load file "will require up to 212 GB depending on your device."
- Launch is unchanged: November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar points players to its Support site for step-by-step pre-load instructions on each console.
PS5 and Xbox Start at Different Times
The two platforms open pre-loading in different ways, so it is worth checking which one applies to you.
On PS5, pre-loading starts at local midnight. Players in the earliest time zones get access first, and the start moves west around the globe through the day.
On Xbox Series X|S, pre-loading opens at one moment worldwide: midnight GMT on November 10. In the Americas that falls on the evening of Monday, November 9. Midnight GMT is 7 p.m. Eastern and 4 p.m. Pacific, so Xbox players in the US can start downloading several hours before their own local midnight.
If you bought a physical copy, keep in mind that the box contains a download code, not a disc. Rockstar Support has already said "a disc will not be included in the box." Retailers should start selling those code-in-box copies from November 12, according to the Newswire post, so physical buyers can't begin downloading before they have a code to redeem.
What 212 GB Means
Rockstar gives an upper limit, not a figure for each console. "Up to 212 GB depending on your device" means some versions will need less, but Rockstar hasn't said which ones or how much less. The safest plan is to clear at least 212 GB before November 10 on any console. Games often need extra free space while they install, and day-one patches add to the total.
The official figure is close to the 210 GB that PlayStation Store backend data reportedly showed in late October. We covered that report at the time as an unconfirmed number. Rockstar has now put a figure on the record, and that figure is the one to plan around.
Free Poster and Map of Leonida
Rockstar also announced a launch-day extra. On November 19, it will add an official printable GTA VI cover art poster and a map of Leonida to the official site as a free digital download.
A double-sided physical version of the poster will follow from the Rockstar Store shortly after launch. It costs $0.99 on its own, or comes as a free gift with any Rockstar Store purchase. Rockstar's post presents the poster as a store item and a website download, and doesn't mention a map packed inside the code-in-box edition.
What to Watch Next
The Newswire post doesn't give launch-day unlock times, a breakdown of file size per console, or details of a day-one patch. Rockstar Support is the place to watch for any of these. Take-Two reports its quarterly results after the market close on Monday, November 9, the day before pre-loading opens. Expect GTA VI to come up on that call.
For now, the plan is simple. Pre-order digitally if you want the earliest download. Clear 212 GB. Check your console's library on November 10, or on the evening of November 9 if you play on Xbox in the Americas.
