GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, but it may not start at the same moment everywhere. PlayStation Store data reported since September points to a rolling release at local midnight, beginning in New Zealand about 18 hours before players on the US East Coast. Rockstar has not published these times, so treat them as a strong guide rather than a promise.

The schedule traces back to PlayStation Store listings compiled by the fan site GTA Vice, and was then reported by VICE and others. VICE says the listings cover 63 countries and regions, and notes plainly that "Rockstar Games has not confirmed these launch times, and they are subject to change."

What's Confirmed

  • The release date is November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Preloading opens at local midnight on November 12, according to Rockstar Support, based on the region of your store account rather than your console clock.
  • The physical edition is a box with a download code, with no disc, so boxed buyers also depend on the store download.

We haven't found an hour for launch itself in anything Rockstar has published. The preload wording is the closest official hint that store region is what matters.

The Reported Schedule

Gadget Review, citing the GTA Vice store data, gives these unlock times. All of them work out to midnight on November 19 in the local time zone listed:

  • New Zealand: 11:00 UTC, November 18
  • Australia (AEDT): 13:00 UTC, November 18
  • Japan: about 15:00 UTC, November 18
  • Central Europe: 23:00 UTC, November 18
  • United Kingdom: 00:00 UTC, November 19
  • US and Canada East: 05:00 UTC, November 19
  • Mexico and Central America: 06:00 UTC, November 19

VICE puts the US unlock at 9 p.m. Pacific on November 18, the same moment as midnight on the East Coast. If that holds, players on the West Coast could start on the evening of November 18 by their own clocks. That is the reported PlayStation picture, and we can't confirm it applies to Xbox.

Not every list agrees. Other sites have published schedules with different dates or hours, including some that conflict with the local midnight model, so check any list against your own store listing closer to launch.

The New Zealand Trick

You'll see this one all over your feed again this week. The idea is to get the New Zealand unlock from elsewhere in the world.

On PlayStation it is awkward. VICE says PlayStation doesn't let you change the region of an existing PSN account, and that your release time follows your account's region rather than your location. You would need a separate New Zealand account and a copy bought on that store, which may require a local payment method or store credit. A copy you've already pre-ordered on another account would reportedly keep that account's unlock time.

Xbox reports say the region setting on the console is more flexible. Gadget Review relays Eurogamer's line that Xbox owners "can seemingly still use the old New Zealand trick", but nobody can test that until launch. We haven't seen Sony or Microsoft endorse either method, so we wouldn't plan launch night, or spend extra money, around it.

What to Watch Next

The next real test is November 12. Preloading may show countdowns or unlock times on the stores themselves, which would be better evidence than any list. Rockstar Support could also add launch timing to its preload guidance. If Rockstar or a store listing states a time, we'll move it into the confirmed column here and update our preload guide.
