The earnings call fans circled on the calendar has come and gone — and Take-Two gave GTA 6 pre-orders a superlative, not a number. On the company's August 7 call, CEO Strauss Zelnick described pre-order levels as "unprecedented and astonishing."
What Take-Two actually reported
For its first fiscal quarter of 2027 (April 1 to June 30), Take-Two posted net bookings of $1.39 billion, slightly above its own guidance. The company credited better-than-expected performance from the GTA and NBA 2K franchises, with GTA net bookings up 3% and NBA 2K up 7%.
One crucial piece of context: the quarter only captured the first five days of GTA 6 pre-orders, which opened June 25. Whatever the pre-order surge really looks like, most of it lands in the current quarter's results, not this one.
The number that isn't what it looks like
You may have seen "$1.39 billion in GTA 6 pre-order sales" circulating online. That's a misreading. The $1.39 billion is Take-Two's total quarterly net bookings across every game it sells — NBA 2K, GTA Online, mobile titles and all. Take-Two has not disclosed GTA 6 pre-order revenue or unit numbers, and Zelnick declined to put figures on his "unprecedented" claim.
What it means
Take-Two reiterated its fiscal 2027 outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings — a range built on GTA 6 launching November 19 and driving what the company expects to be record operating performance. Holding that guidance steady while calling pre-orders unprecedented reads as quiet confidence.
The real numbers should arrive with next quarter's report, which will capture the full pre-order period — and by then, the game itself will be weeks away.
