Grand Theft Auto V is leaving the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on November 17, 2026, two days before Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PS5. The date comes from a system notification Sony pushed to PS5 consoles on October 12, which tells PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members that GTA V is available to play in the Game Catalog only until November 17.
The notice was shared widely by subscribers over the following days and was reported by IGN, GameSpot, GTABoom and KeenGamer between October 13 and 15. According to those reports, the same message links straight through to GTA VI pre-orders, which tells you how Sony is framing the hand-off: one last run through Los Santos, then Leonida.
What the notification says
Here is what has been reported from Sony's notice, and what has not:
- GTA V is playable through the Game Catalog, the library included with the Extra and Premium tiers, until November 17, 2026.
- After that date it is removed from the catalog. Subscribers who were playing it as part of their membership lose access unless they buy it.
- The game is not being delisted. It stays on sale on the PlayStation Store, and anyone who already owns a copy keeps it.
- GTA Online, which ships with GTA V, is affected the same way for catalog players, since it is part of the same product.
We have not seen Sony post the removal date anywhere public. PlayStation's PS Plus games page does not show exit dates for individual titles, and there is no PlayStation Blog post about it yet. The date rests on the in-console notification as reported, so if you rely on the catalog version, check your own PS5 notifications or the game's store page rather than taking anyone's word for it. PlayStation Plus catalogs also vary by region, and removal dates are not always identical worldwide.
Why the timing is not a coincidence
GTA VI launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloads opening at local midnight on November 12 according to Rockstar Support. Pulling GTA V from the subscription library 48 hours before its sequel arrives is an obvious nudge toward the new game, and the pre-order link in the notice makes the intent plain.
It is also familiar. GTA V has rotated in and out of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog several times since Sony first added it in 2023, and it was removed once before in June 2024 before returning. For one of the best-selling games ever made, Sony and Rockstar have treated catalog access as a promotional lever rather than a permanent fixture. This exit simply has a sharper deadline than usual.
What it means if you play GTA V on PS Plus
If you have been treating the catalog version as your main GTA V, you have about a month to decide. The practical options are:
- Finish anything you care about in story mode before November 17. Save data is tied to your account, so if you buy the game later your progress carries over, but you cannot play in the gap without owning it.
- If you mainly play GTA Online, note that your Online character and purchases are tied to your Rockstar Games account on that platform, so buying the game afterward restores them.
- If you are moving to GTA VI anyway, the deadline may not matter. Rockstar has said nothing about carrying GTA Online progress or GTA$ into the new game, and nothing in the notification suggests otherwise, so do not plan around a transfer that has not been announced.
GTA V itself is frequently discounted on the PlayStation Store. Sony's notice, as reported, does not mention a sale, but the game has rarely been full price in recent years.
Update, October 20: Red Dead Redemption 2 leaves the same day
Sony has now listed the November departures in the PS Store's Last Chance to Play section, and GTA V is not the only Rockstar game going. According to PlayStation LifeStyle's October 19 read of that list, backed by Push Square and Insider Gaming, Red Dead Redemption 2 also leaves the Extra and Premium Game Catalog on November 17, 2026, the same day as GTA V and two days before GTA VI. The rest of the list includes Football Manager 26, The Talos Principle 2, Cricket 24, Rock of Ages 3: Make and Break and a handful of regional titles.
Two cautions carry over from the original story. The list comes from the console store section rather than a PlayStation Blog post, and Sony sometimes amends Last Chance to Play during the month. Gaming Bible notes its own version of the list came from a Japanese PlayStation Store image, so the exact line-up can differ by region even when the Rockstar titles do not. Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have cycled through the catalog several times before, which Push Square reads as a sign they will return eventually, though nothing says when.
What to watch next
Sony's mid-month PlayStation Blog post should put both Rockstar dates in writing publicly. We will update this story if the official post gives a different date or adds regional exceptions.
The bigger picture is the one Sony is pointing at. From November 19, the question for PlayStation players stops being whether to keep GTA V and becomes how quickly Vice City replaces Los Santos. GTA VI preloads open November 12, the Game Catalog door on GTA V closes November 17, and the new game arrives two days later.
