GTA 6 pre-orders have passed an estimated $630 million in digital sales, according to the latest update from market-intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Insider Gaming reported the figures on October 20, 2026: roughly 6.45 million copies pre-ordered across PlayStation and Xbox digital storefronts, just under a month before the game launches on November 19.

These are third-party estimates, not sales data from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. Neither company has published a pre-order count, and Take-Two has said it doesn't plan to. Treat every number below as a well-sourced model, not a confirmed total.

What Sensor Tower's latest estimate says

According to Insider Gaming's report on the October 20 update:

  • 6.45 million digital pre-orders in total
  • $630 million in estimated pre-order revenue
  • PlayStation 5: about 74% — roughly 4.8 million copies and $468 million
  • Xbox Series X|S: roughly 1.66 million copies and $162 million

The platform figures add up to the headline totals, and they move in a straight line from the previous snapshot. A week earlier, Tech4Gamers reported Sensor Tower's numbers at about 6.08 million copies and $594 million, with PlayStation on 4.51 million copies ($441 million) and Xbox on 1.57 million ($153 million). That works out to around 370,000 extra pre-orders and roughly $36 million in a single week, with the PlayStation share holding steady at around three in four.

Several other outlets, including TweakTown, Notebookcheck and TechPowerUp, carried the same figures on October 20.

What the numbers don't cover

Sensor Tower doesn't publish its methodology for these console estimates, and the tracker only covers digital storefronts. That leaves some big gaps:

  • Physical pre-orders aren't counted. Retail boxes from shops like GameStop, Best Buy or Amazon sit outside the data. Rockstar Support has confirmed the physical edition is a box with a download code and no disc, but those sales still don't flow through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store totals Sensor Tower models.
  • PC isn't part of it. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version.
  • Revenue isn't defined. It isn't clear whether the dollar figure is gross spend or net of platform fees, so don't read $630 million as money in Take-Two's bank account.
  • The geography is unclear. Sensor Tower's earlier comparison, the one that put GTA 6 148 percent ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at the same point before launch, was explicitly US digital pre-orders only. Some reports present the October 20 totals as worldwide, others as US figures, and Sensor Tower has not clarified. If these are US-only numbers, the global digital total is higher.

Sensor Tower's own public tracker page currently shows only an earlier snapshot. As of July 20, it estimated 3.15 million PlayStation and 0.93 million Xbox units and $395 million in net revenue. So we couldn't check the October figures against Sensor Tower directly. They come to us through press reports.

What's actually confirmed

The on-the-record position hasn't changed since Take-Two's August 7 earnings call. CEO Strauss Zelnick called GTA 6 pre-orders "unprecedented and astonishing" but gave no figures. He also said the mix is skewing toward the $99.99 Ultimate Edition, while noting that the most avid fans tend to pre-order first. Take-Two said it won't publish raw pre-order counts.

The confirmed basics: GTA 6 costs $79.99 (Standard) or $99.99 (Ultimate) and launches Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital pre-loading opens at local midnight on November 12.

Why this estimate matters

This tracker is also a useful reality check on the bigger claims that circulated over the summer. Some figures shared online put GTA 6 pre-orders in the tens of millions of units and billions of dollars, with no source attached. Sensor Tower's digital-only model lands far lower. Physical boxes would add to it, but nobody outside Rockstar, Take-Two and the retailers knows by how much. Until Take-Two reports, a named tracker with a stated scope beats an unsourced total every time. Huge numbers with nothing behind them belong on the rumor pile.

What to watch next

Take-Two's next quarterly results are the first place official numbers could appear. Even then, the company has said it won't publish raw pre-order counts, so a bookings total is the more likely disclosure. Sensor Tower updates its tracker weekly, so expect another snapshot before pre-load opens on November 12. We'll log any claimed sales figure on our Rumor Tracker until Rockstar or Take-Two puts a number on the record.
