Could GTA 6 run at 60fps on a base PS5? A new leak says maybe, and it's got fans hopeful. But the claim comes from one source, and the experts aren't sold. Here's the full picture.

What the leak claims

The rumour comes from Borys Nieśpielak, co-host of the Polish podcast Rock i Borys. Citing a single source he describes as reliable, he says GTA 6 is being built with two graphics modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X: a 30fps quality mode and a 60fps performance mode. The catch — Rockstar reportedly isn't certain the 60fps mode will be ready for the November 19 launch, so it could arrive later as a patch.

For Xbox Series S, the same leak says Rockstar is currently targeting 30fps, with a higher-performance option still under discussion with Microsoft and nothing finalised.

Why to keep expectations in check

A few reasons to treat this carefully. It's a single source, by the leaker's own admission. It's also Nieśpielak's first Rockstar leak — his track record is with CD Projekt Red, where the podcast correctly called a Witcher 3 expansion before its announcement. A good record on one studio doesn't transfer automatically to another.

Then there's the technical doubt. Digital Foundry has looked at the trailers — which render at 30fps with heavy ray-traced lighting and dense crowds — and questioned whether a stable 60fps is realistic even on PS5 Pro without cutting resolution or detail. A separate MediaMarkt Poland retailer listing did mention "Performance" and "Quality" modes, but retailer listings are often placeholders.

What it would mean

If true, console players would choose between sharper visuals and smoother motion — a first for a mainline GTA at this scale. Until Rockstar details its performance options, though, this is a rumour, not a spec.
