Grand Theft Auto VI has its final North American age rating. As of October 18, 2026, the Entertainment Software Rating Board lists the game as M for Mature 17+, and Rockstar Games' own GTA VI site now carries the ESRB Mature badge in place of the Rating Pending placeholder it showed through September.

The rating is not a report or a datamine. It appears on four official pages we read today: the ESRB's own listing, rockstargames.com/VI, the US PlayStation Store product page, and the US Xbox Store page. All four show the same descriptors, so the details below are confirmed rather than reported.

What the ESRB Rating Says

The ESRB entry lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, with Rockstar Games as publisher. The rating is Mature 17+, and the content descriptors are:

  • Blood and Gore
  • Intense Violence
  • Mature Humor
  • Nudity
  • Strong Language
  • Strong Sexual Content
  • Use of Drugs and Alcohol

The listing also carries an Interactive Elements label of In-Game Purchases. The ESRB's rating summary on the page currently restates those descriptors and nothing more, so there is no scene-by-scene breakdown from the board yet. If the ESRB adds a longer summary later, we will update this article.

For comparison, Grand Theft Auto V shipped with the same M rating and a similar descriptor set, so nothing here changes what a GTA game is. What it does change is the paperwork: retailers, parents and platform stores now have a final rating to work from a month before the November 19 launch.

Where the Rating Shows Up on Official Pages

Rockstar's GTA VI site shows the ESRB Mature badge alongside the full descriptor list and the In-Game Purchases label, next to the "Coming November 19, 2026" line and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platform logos. GTA Intel noted in late September that the same page still said Rating Pending, so this is a recent change.

The US PlayStation Store listing shows ESRB Mature 17+ with identical descriptors and a note that in-game purchases are optional. The same page lists the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, marks the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced, and states that it is playable only on PlayStation 5 consoles. Both edition listings bundle the Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+ with pre-order, and a seven-day preload.

One wrinkle worth knowing about: the FAQ section further down that PlayStation page still says the age ratings for Grand Theft Auto VI are unconfirmed. That line looks like a leftover from the pre-rating version of the page. The rating block at the top, the ESRB database and Rockstar's own site all agree, so treat the FAQ sentence as stale.

The US Xbox Store page shows Mature 17+ with the same seven descriptors, a release date of November 19, 2026, the Standard Edition from $79.99, the Ultimate Edition from $99.99, and a separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade add-on at $20.00 marked as pre-order. The listing tags the game as single player and Optimized for Xbox Series X|S.

What In-Game Purchases Means Here

The In-Game Purchases label tells you the game offers something for real money beyond the purchase price. It does not say what. Rockstar has not detailed any post-launch store, and the only paid elements visible on official pages today are the editions themselves, the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, and the GTA+ membership that comes bundled for a month with pre-orders. Anything more specific, including the shape of any online mode, remains unannounced.

Ratings Outside North America

Europe is less tidy. A search of PEGI's public database on October 18 returns no entry for Grand Theft Auto VI at all. VGC and PC Gamer reported on October 2 and 3 that a PEGI 18 rating and a detailed content summary were briefly published and then removed from PEGI's site, and neither PEGI nor Rockstar has commented. Until PEGI's database shows a live entry, the European rating is reported rather than confirmed, and the specifics attributed to that deleted summary stay on our Rumor Tracker.

Elsewhere, Inven Global reported on October 16 that South Korea's Game Content Rating Board has classified the game as Adults Only, and several outlets have reported an R18+ classification in Australia based on regional PlayStation Store listings. We have not read those regional pages ourselves, so both remain reported.

What to Watch Next

The two things that would move this story are a full ESRB rating summary appearing on the board's listing, and PEGI's database finally showing its entry. Rockstar's own page is the quickest tell for anything else: a rating change there would be official the moment it appears. For now, the North American answer is settled, and it is the one GTA fans expected.
