Five weeks out from launch, the GTA 6 story is finally settling into facts. This hub is our living summary of what Rockstar Games and Take-Two have confirmed on the record, kept separate from what the community has reported or guessed. We update it on every official drop, and anything we cannot trace to Rockstar, Take-Two or a Rockstar developer speaking on the record is labelled as such.

Release date and preload

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026. Rockstar set that date on the Newswire after two earlier slips, and this week studio head Rob Nelson told Famitsu the game will ship on time. On October 15, Rockstar published the launch trailer and reiterated the date again, so there is no ambiguity left on timing.

Digital preloading opens at local midnight on November 12, 2026, one week before release. Rockstar Support notes that the preload window is tied to the region of your store account rather than your console clock, so changing a time zone setting will not unlock it early. The physical edition is a box containing a download code. Rockstar Support's wording is blunt: a disc will not be included in the box. Rockstar has not published the download size, so the 200 GB to 600 GB figures circulating online are guesses.

Platforms

GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation Store listing carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, which tells you the game has a Pro-specific build, but Rockstar has not published resolution or frame-rate targets for any console. Anyone promising 60fps on Pro is extrapolating.

There is no PC version at launch. Rockstar has not announced a PC release or window. Press expectations of an early 2027 PC port follow the pattern of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, but they are expectations, not an announcement. There is also nothing official on last-generation consoles, Switch 2 or cloud versions.

Price and editions

Pre-orders have been open since June 25, 2026, in two editions. The Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Rockstar's Ultimate Edition listing includes a '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy with the Paradise Garage, a one-car personal garage in Watson Bay, a '95 Grotti Cheetah, a Dinka Enduro motorcycle and Crest Kayak, Vapid Ganado Retro Build mods, the Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's mod shops, Classic Car Collection missions, and personalised variants of Jason's Girardi ES9 and Lucia's Klose K17 pistols. Every pre-order of either edition includes the Vintage Vice City Pack: a 1955 Vapid Stanier, an Ocean Beach garage, outfits and hairstyles for both leads, and a weapon pattern. Our Where to Buy page tracks retailers for both editions.

The state of Leonida

The game is set in Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida. Six regions have been officially named across the trailers, the GTA VI website and the screenshot drops:

  • Vice City, the neon-and-beaches heart of the map
  • Leonida Keys, the island chain to the south
  • Grassrivers, the wetlands standing in for the Everglades
  • Port Gellhorn, a faded coastal town
  • Ambrosia, inland agricultural country
  • Mount Kalaga National Park, the wild north

Rockstar describes Leonida as the biggest GTA map it has made. It has not put a number on that. The widely repeated claim that the map is roughly twice the size of GTA V's, spanning five or more counties, comes from press analysis of the footage, and we file it as credible rather than confirmed. What Rockstar developers have said, in Game Informer's October cover story, is that the world contains 170 animal species and the largest range of clothing and accessories the studio has produced.

Jason and Lucia

GTA 6 has two playable protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, partners in crime and in a relationship. Lucia is the first female lead in the series. The August 27 Extended Look showed that players can switch between the two freely rather than only at fixed story points, and that they can run jobs together or separately. The launch trailer adds a visual detail Rockstar has not explained: Lucia wears an ankle monitor, which the community reads as parole. That is an observation from the footage, not a stated plot point.

The confirmed supporting cast runs to eight named characters, including Boobie Ike, Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Dre'Quan Priest, Raul Bautista and Real Dimez. Our Cast and Characters pages break down what is confirmed and what is reported for each of them.

Gameplay systems Rockstar has shown

Everything in this section comes from the Extended Look footage or from Rockstar developers on the record.

  • Weather has been re-engineered to be localised and persistent. Rain leaves rainbows, puddles and wet surfaces behind, and tropical storms and hurricanes roll across the regions.
  • The six-star Wanted system returns, and a new Heat system means police factor in your clothing, appearance and vehicle and can gather information on your co-protagonist. Rob Nelson has said pursuits will be harder to shake than in GTA V.
  • The Criminal Profile system tracks how you behave without reducing it to good or bad, an evolution of the Honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • The phone is a physical item your character takes out. Snapmatic returns, the RydeMe shared-ride app offers fast travel with other passengers in the car, and a car-security app shows the risk tier of a vehicle before you steal it.
  • Off-mission activities shown include scuba diving, jet skiing, basketball, dirt biking, street racing and fishing.
  • Six in-game radio stations have been previewed, including a returning Flash FM, and the series gets on-demand podcasts for the first time.

Vehicle handling is the one popular talking point we are not listing as confirmed. Rockstar has not described the driving model, so claims of a more realistic handling overhaul are inference from the footage.

What is still not confirmed

There is no official information on a multiplayer or GTA Online successor, no date or details for a PC version, and no VR support. Rockstar's Oct 8 Newswire posts covered the Rockstar Store collection and the radio stations, not multiplayer. When any of that changes, it will appear on the Newswire first, and on this page within the day. For the full list of open claims, see the Rumor Tracker.
